The Singapore Botanical Gardens,..... A Place I would love to work in PERMANENTLY.
The Singapore Botanical Gardens has been awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 39th UNESCO meet in Bonn this year.
What a proud moment it is for most Singaporeans, well... at least for me..
I had worked in the NParks for 5 weeks, you know?
It was the absolute best time of my life, and not even working in IFP, Pondicherry could come close, though initially I thought that it would happen the other way around... It was Pondicherry, after all. But no.. I had found immense happiness in my own backyard.
NParks is indeed a great place to work in... I admit that the pay is LOUSY. I would probably get paid maybe half of what I earn now... and the working hours are so long! ( 8 am - 6 pm ) On top of this, one would need to beat the MRT rush in the early morning, packed as tight as sardines and reach the Botanical Gardens MRT by 745 am so that one could make the steep upward hike to the NParks headquarters to be on time.
Please read that as: Don't waste expensive perfume as it would probably wear off by the time you reach the office, and Don't use high-heeled shoes if you value your toes.
Regardless of which, I still got a temp NParks pass that allowed me to walk into any part of the SBG at any time of the day or week. I could come into SBG during the weekend still wearing my pass and still get the benefits! LOL It was awesome.. The only time that I could walk into the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden with no child. ( that simply HAS to be an added plus! )

Here is a scene that I could see on any typical weekend or a public holiday. Its so refreshing to see members of the public come into the parks and enjoy themselves with their children and/or pets. I once chanced upon this HUGE Caucasian man with his equally HUGE dog that was almost up to his waist! ( I think it could have easily stood in for the Hounds of the Baskervilles - except that it had had a really beautiful and sleek ivory coat.. )
Here is the gazebo in which one day I would like for my beau to propose for my hand in marriage.. except that I am already married. LOL but it would still be nice for a little rest after a good walk..
Pictured below are some awesome pictures of orchids that could be found in the National Orchid Gardens, situated inside the SBG itself... I forced my poor Mammaa into the SBG one day and she mustered up enough energy to walk with me, as best as she could to see the beautiful gardens and the flowers that it held... I guess I am much like my Mammaa, I love all manners of flowers, - roses, water lilies and orchids most of all..
It is not true that Orchids have no smell... some of them do, and very heady scents at that.. I really do miss my stint at the SBG..
SBG boasts some very good water features. Here is a feature that is actually the collection pool for a man made river. I really do not know where the water starts and since it is man made, I really can not gauge where the pipes and mechanisms are. All I know is that the flat rocks that bracket the little babbling brook are very good to sit at and meditate... This, coupled with the heady scent of the earth and the moss and the sounds of wild-life, crickets and song-birds make the SBG as close to me as what Heaven must be like, perhaps...

Finally, the Symphony Lake, where orchestras and bands play... wouldnt it be simply a wonderful thing to spend one's evening with a loved one, with food and drink and simply enjoying art inside of nature?

With as much love as before,
R
